How to Negotiate Better Prices with Sellers (Without Being Rude)

Proven negotiation tactics that actually work on Weidian and Taobao. Save 10-20% on every order with these scripts and strategies.
Most buyers accept the listed price and move on. That is leaving money on the table. Chinese sellers expect negotiation, especially for bulk orders or repeat customers. Your agent handles the conversation, but you need to know what to ask for and how to frame it.
Strategy 1: Bulk Discounts
The easiest discount to get is a bulk discount. Order 3+ items from the same seller and ask for 5-10% off total. Sellers love guaranteed volume and will often agree immediately. This works best on mid-tier batches where margins are flexible.
Strategy 2: Bundle Shipping
If you are ordering from multiple sellers, ask each if they offer combined domestic shipping discounts. Some sellers charge flat domestic shipping per item, but will waive or reduce fees if you order multiple pieces in one go.
Strategy 3: Timing Your Order
Chinese New Year (late January to mid-February) and Singles Day (November 11) are the two biggest sales periods. Prices drop 10-30% across the board. Conversely, avoid ordering right before major holidays when sellers are rushing and less willing to negotiate.
"Hello, I am interested in ordering 3 items from your store. Would you offer a discount for bulk purchase? I am a repeat customer and plan to order more in the future." This frames you as valuable long-term business, not a one-off bargain hunter.
What NOT to Do
Never open with an absurdly low offer. Asking for 50% off a $70 item insults the seller and kills the negotiation. Start with 10-15% and let them counter. Also, do not negotiate on clearly marked "fixed price" listings — those are typically loss leaders with no margin to move.
